How to ACE Healthy Skin

How to ACE Healthy Skin

The easiest way to achieve healthy skin is by keeping the ACE up your sleeve. The guardians of great skin are basically the four vitamins A, C, E and D. These vitamins are normally provided to us from our regular diet of meat & dairy together with fruit & vegetables.

Vitamin A: Vitamin A contains retinoids which may be the only reliable wrinkle-fighter on the skin care market. Retinoids also help repair sun damage and prevent the development of actinic keratosis (precancerous skin condition).

Good sources of Vitamin A (retinol) include:

  • Cheese
  • Eggs
  • Oily Fish
  • Fortified low-fat spreads
  • Milk and Yoghurt

Vitamin C: This antioxidant vitamin stimulates our skin's production of collagen and elastin fibres, making it firmer, more elastic and keeps us looking young. Vitamin C is found in many fruits especially citrus like lemons, lime & oranges.

Vitamin E: Another highly important antioxidant, vitamin E helps neutralize harmful free radicals in our body, hence can slow down the formation of wrinkles and improve the performance of our sunscreen.

Vitamin E is found in plant-based oils, nuts, seeds, fruits, and vegetables.

  • Wheat germ oil
  • Sunflower, safflower, and soybean oil
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Almonds
  • Peanuts, peanut butter
  • Beet greens, collard greens, spinach
  • Pumpkin
  • Red bell pepper

Vitamin D is known as the sunshine vitamin and is free. Several minutes exposure to the morning or evening sun is probably adequate for the average person skin to generate enough vitamin D to maintain healthy bones teeth and skin.

How does Vitamin D make your skin better?

Vitamin D plays an integral role in skin protection and rejuvenation. It contributes to skin cell growth, repair, and metabolism. It also enhances the skin's immune system and helps to destroy free radicals that can cause premature ageing.
